Electrical Wiring in the Home - nutral wires hot

Expert: J Cook - 11/10/2009

Question
Plugged in a lamp blew the bulb, knocked out outlets and lights on circuit. Took the outlet out looks ok found wire and panel wires look tight my beeper tester makes noise on both sides of outlet where should i start?

Answer
There is either a damaged device on the circuit, or the wiring itself. I would start at the breaker and follow each device on the circuit. You can pull out each receptacle and remove the wiring feeding downstream until you locate the faulty device or section of wiring. Thanks
