Question QUESTION: I have run 12-2g from panel (15 amp) to wall dual switch (light&fan) and have run 12-3 from switch to ceiling fan. I want to add an electrical outlet to this circuit with a master switch on/off. Exactly how would I tie into the 12-2/12-3 at the dual switch to the flip switch for the electrical outlet and to the 4 plug outlet?
ANSWER: Hi.
Do you want the switch for the outlets at the same location as the switch for the fan? What are you using the outlets for?
Give me as much information as you can, and ask a follow up question after 8 PM EDT.

QUESTION: The switch for the 4-6 outlet box is a separate function for turning down all power to the electronic components. Tha tis the 4-6 outlet box will be used for tv, dvd, stereo system convertor box, vcr & etc. This outlet box is on a perpendicular wall to the 12-2 power approximately 20-25' from the switch. the length includes going up the wall to the attic and across then down. This 4-6 box outlet switch is desired at the same location as the ceiling fan switch in order to tie into the power source.
So yes, switch for the outlets at the same locaiton as the switch for the fan.
The outlets are for 5-7 electrical media/audio components
I have been told to run a short black wire from the fan switch to the outlet switch. then what? do i run a new 12-3 form the outlet switch to the outlets?
If u have the time could u guide me on the wire to wire connections 12-2 to 12-3 ceiling fan dual switch so I ams ure I have it right
thank you for your time, patience, and effort
Answer Hi.
At the switch box, the black power wire coming in will connect to all the switches. If the fan/light switch has a wire, then connect it, along with the power coming in and a short piece to the outlet switch. If fan/light switch has screws, then run a short piece of wire from there, as well as the other switch and the power source.
All of the white wires will connect together with a wire nut. The black and red wires going to the fan will connect to the other terminals of the fan/light switch. The black wire going to the outlets will connect to the other terminal of the switch for the outlets.
All of the bare ground wires will connect together, to any metal boxes, green screws and green wires.
You do not need 12-3 to the outlets as long as they are all controlled by the switch.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any follow up questions.
