Electrical Wiring in the Home - 30 amp rv temporary hook-up.

Expert: Rick Miell - 8/13/2009

Question
Am preparing for electrical inspection in WA. Have hooked up receptical and power supply and connected with pvc electrical conduit.  From four jaw socket have connect to bottom hook-up. White (common to comon). Grounding Rod wire to ground in jaws then connected to recepticle ground. Black (Hot)  connected to circuit breaker then to plug. Am told that WA has another step but can't get any info.  I am assuming it has to do with an additional ground hook up.Do I have to hook up a grounding link even though not metal to metal . Thanks Phil

This is on a post (temporary) for trailer hook-up while working on property.

Answer
Hi Philip.

The only thing I can tell from your photo is that the flat copper band located on the neutral buss needs to be secured to the enclosure using the green screw located adjacent to the neutral buss.

Some power suppliers forbid you to run your grounding electrode conductor (which runs from your rod) into a meter socket.  You can run the wire into the power outlet box, connecting it directly to the neutral buss, and then you can drop from the neutral buss to the outlet's ground connection. No need to run up to the meter socket if you install the grounding electrode conductor this way.

I hope this helps.
