Question
I'm thinking of transferring careers and was wondering what are the steps to become an electrician, how long will it take, what is the starting pay and what are the working conditions?

Answer
It depends on what area of electric you want to pursue. Also, there is union versus nonunion, commercial, industrial, and residential. Do you want to be an installer or troubleshooter.
The pay varies accordingly, as does the working conditions.
Typically, a trade school is a good place to start.
If you want to go union then get whole of your local brotherhood and ask what steps they require.
