Question
Just a quick question i just noticed a new house in clifton park NY were when changing a recp out i noticed that there was a wire going to the smoke det, my question is the electrician that wired the house did not run a separate home run he interconnected all the smokes but ran different feeds to some of the smokes. the master bedroom smoke is feed from the master bedroom, the other bedrooms are feed from those bedrooms, i have never seen this before. i thought it was code to run one separate feed and interconnect them all, i didn't think you could run numerous feeds to the smokes doesn't that defeat the whole thing?

To the best of my knowledge, it is not a mandate of the NEC to have all smoke detectors on the same circuit. I would be interested in a citation of the code that caused you to think that. It may be Life Safety Code or a local interpretation, but not to my knowledge.
