Electrical Wiring in the Home/1978 Hillcrest double wide mobil home
Expert: Ben - 10/26/2013
Question Hello my parents have a 78 hillcrest double wide and one day everything was working ok. they were watching tv and poof all the power on the side that does not have the breaker panel just stoped working. The outlets, overhead lights everything no power I checked the breakers they all have power.been told there is a plug some were to connect the two trailers together.Do you have any ideas? Or if you know were that plug is? Please any info would help.Thank you James Reynolds
Usually with a double wide they have 1 or 2 junction boxes at either end of the trailer. They have a 2 gang blank cover on them this is where they make the junctions.Look inside there you should see the wires for the circuits, check each one to see if they are all tight. If the wires are all tight then test the outlets with a tester to the ground on the plug from the hot,if you have power there then you lost a neutral. The next step is to check the outlets that are on that circuit, open up each box till you find a loose white wire the older trailers use to use these outlets that you would push the wire in the back of the outlet. They use to have a lot of those problems, now they don't use them any more.
