Question
When we built our house I had them wire for a future garage. It appears they used #8 wire on a 30 amp breaker,I now want to run 40ft to new garage. Will this wire be big enough to handle lights, recpt and 1 220v outlet for welder.

Answer
Barry
Actually # 8 wire is good for 40 amps and at a 4ft run there won't be any voltage drop.As your appliances and what you want to hook up you need to figure what the welder requires for a overload breaker and the lights can be figured at 2000 watts is a 20 amp circuit 120 or 240 volts it desnt matter as long as you know the amps. Then you can figure it a 80% that will give you your connected load.
