Electrical Wiring in the Home/220v single phase for a/c

Question
I have a Trane YCC018F 208-230/1/60 A/C.  This is 220v single phase unit. The schematic diagram shows (wire one) labeled (RD) and at the other end "230v"; (wire two) labeled (BK) and at the other end "COM": (wire three) labeled (GR) and of course this is ground. Inside the actual 'used' A/C unit I have three wires that were cut upon the past removal (I did not see the past installation).  Is there a missing wire inside the unit? Or does one 110v goto (RD), one 110v goto (BK) and ground goto (GR)?

Answer
Hi.

The best place to get Trane specific information is from Trane.  However, every compressor that I have seen have two wires, both of which are hot, plus the ground.  Since two wire cable has a black and white, the white would take the place of the red.  You should put a piece of black tape on it, to show that it is hot.

I hope this helps.
