Question -
I am installing a ceiling fan in a bedroom. I have ran the wire down to the switch for the half hot and I am adding another switch for the fan. When I connected all the wiring together the breaker would not reset. I than disconnected the new switch and everything works fine. Why does the switch set the breaker off. And what can I do to rectify this problem.

thanks for you help
scott.

Answer -
First what wires are at the ceiling, and what wires are at the switch.  Also, how was it connected before you added the wire.  When you added the wire where did you make the connections.  Let me know and we can go from there.  Jeff

Answer
Yup you made a breaker checker.  Take the white wire and put it on the incoming black power wire at the fan location.  Then at the switch put it on the bottom terminal of the switch.  Take the black wire and put it on the top switch terminal.  Then wirenut the black wire from the switch to the black wire to the fan.  That will solve your problem.  Jeff
