Electrical Wiring in the Home/circuit breaker
Expert: David Coil/C. R. Construction - 7/7/2005
QuestionHi, I was moving an outlet (without turning off the circuit breaker,my dumb thing,) and I touched my screwdriver with the live wire. Naturally, the circuit breaker kicked in and shut down that line. But, when I went to reset the switch, it wouldn't move back to the normal position. It stayed where it was with the little red mark showing. I pushed it again and it just went back. What do you think? Ed Parauka
AnswerYou may have created a continuous short somewhere else in the box. You may need to replace the receptacle to correct the problem It is also possible that the breaker is now burnt out and needs replacement. Try putting that wire on another breaker and see if it stays on or trips.
