Electrical Wiring in the Home - circut breaker

Expert: J Cook - 6/30/2006

Question
I am installing a sign at my business and when I turn the circut breaker on the sign will light up for about 2 seconds and then the breaker will buzz and trip off. What do think might be wrong?

Answer
A dead short would immediately trip the breaker, so I would say this circuit is overloaded. A larger breaker would not cure the problem as the wire is rated the same as the breaker, the wire most likely needs to be upsized with a larger breaker. Thanks, J
