Electrical Wiring in the Home - colour coding wires

Expert: J Cook - 3/1/2004

Question
i recently pulled out a fridge compressor from a disused fridge. the pump is made in japan i think.
the three wires are blue black and yellow.
can you tell me which one is live earth and neutral?

Answer
Toby, I am sorry, but it would be a guess. Each manufacturer has their own set of coding, and without a wiring diagram I could not say for sure. If the voltage is 120, one would be the " Hot " wire, one the neutral, and the other would also be considered a " Hot " wire, but it would be coming from the start relay. Sorry I could not assist further.
