Electrical Wiring in the Home - combination switch/recetacle GFCI

Expert: Jeff Evans - 5/2/2005

Question
I replaced the combo switch/receptacle in my bathroom, the outlet works, however the switch will not turn the light on. The unit is made by Cooper, it has two black wires coming from the top near the switch. I connected the main power supply (black and white) to the receptacle, the black and white from the light fixture goes where? and what do the two black wires do?

Answer
1 black wire on the switch gets powered from the receptacle.  The other black wire on the switch goes to the black wire on the fixture.  The white wire from the fixture goes on the receptacle with the other white wire.  Hope this clears up your confusion.  Jeff
