Electrical Wiring in the Home - converting 220 to 110

Expert: J Cook - 2/8/2005

Question
HOW TO CONVERT A 220V CIRCUIT TO TWO 110V CIRCUITS. THE WIRE IS 10 GA WITH RED WHITE BLACK AND BARE GROUND

Answer
Piece of cake John. Remove the double breaker now feeding this circuit. The breaker will have the black and red connected. Replace this double breaker with two single 20 amp breakers and connect the black to one, the red to the other. The white and bare should already be connected to the neutral and ground bars, verify that they are and they will not be disturbed and stay as they are. Now you have two 120 volt circuits with a common neutral and ground. Just use the black, white and ground for one, and the red, white and ground for the other. Let me know if I can assist further John, thanks for asking, J
