Electrical Wiring in the Home/How to wire receptacles

Question
Hi Rick,
I want to wire two duplex receptacles in a double sized box.
Would you be able to send me a diagram or e-mail me details for a electric dummy.
Thanks,
Richard

Answer
Hi Richard.

The normal way of doing this is to wire each terminal on each device with a short (6") pigtail.  That is, a piece of black wire connected to the brass colored screw of device #1, and another short piece of black wire connected to the brass screw on device #2.  Then take both of these wires and connect to the incoming black wire, using a wirenut.  Do the same for the white wires to the silver screws, and for the ground wires to the green grounding screws.

You might want to check www.danswiringpage.com for diagrams.  I can't remember if he has a diagram for this setup, but it might give you some ideas.

Good luck.
