Electrical Wiring in the Home/wiring 240 plug?
Expert: Jeff Evans - 7/13/2006
QuestionI bought a kiln which is 240 30 amps. I am making a longer cord,
which will plug into my 240 dryer outlet. I bought 10 foot cord and
the plug to attach to it. On wiring the plug to the cord does the
ground (green) go on the left, nuetral (white) go in the center, and
hot (black) go on the right?
Thanks!
Answer240 volts require 2 hot 120 volt circuits located one above the other in the panel. The gold colored terminals are the hot, commonly red and black, the silver terminal is the neutral must be white or gray, and the green terminal is the ground, green or bare wire. If this only has 3 wires, black, white, and green or bare wire, the black still goes to the gold terminal, the white to the silver terminal and the ground to the green terminal. Jeff
