Do you feel the Social Security Number could be useful in redesigning with adding Biometric identifiers as part of Security measures counterfeiting Identity thefts ?

ANSWER: Biometrics are part of many identification cards today - even a photograph and physical dimensions are a rudimentary form of biometrics. New IDs have smart cards or some form of electronic data contained on the card which helps prevent counterfeiting, and the storage of data.
However, the Social Security card is not intended to be used as a general-purpose identification; biometrics are better-used in photo IDs such as military IDs, passports or driving licenses.

QUESTION: Dear Deirdre

Thank you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Footprint

Other than facial, fingerprints, iris (eye), vein uniqueness, Can we also consider footprints unique from person to person as Biometric
identifiers ?

Awaiting your reply,

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

Answer
As mentioned in another answer, footprints are unique, and used in some hospitals to identify babies. But they are inconvenient to use for common biometric identification because they require the removal of shoes, socks, hose, etc.

They are unique, but other biometrics are much more convenient to use for regular identification purposes.
