ANSWER: Portable printers already exist.
Because of  the way memory works, a digital camera works (from a memory perspective) much like an external hard drive, or like a thumb drive.

Many photo printers already have a port for connecting a camera, and an internal application to browse the camera memory, and are capable of printing without the use of an external computer.

The print button will not likely appear on the camera because each printer and each camera work differently. This would make it difficult to have the appropriate drivers for each printer installed on a camera. But because the camera can appear as a thumb drive, it's much easier for the printer to browse the camera's memory than for the camera to control the printer.
