AboutScottgem Expertise With over 16 years of experience in Information Technology I have acquired a large store of knowledge about computing. This enables me to answer a large variety of questions about computing.
Experience More than 12 years of using cyberspace and various e-mail systems.
My current email account is with mail.com; I wonder which other email service provider(s) may offer more useful and time-saving email account features--someone recommended gmail, for instance, and referred to its faster running speed as one of its superior features. I'd like to hear your recommendation(s) on this topic.
I have a similar question regarding time/activity management (PIM) software. I have Microsoft Outlook, but wonder if there are better choices in terms of useful features and user-friendliness. There seems to be quite a few freeware programs available online for free downloading, but it is hard for me to tell which is the most useful and the easiest to use.
And what about free online calendars/planners, provided by email service providers and others like Yahoo? They seem convenient owing to their accessibility from other computers away from home, but is your personal info entered in those secure? If yes, would using those be a better choice than using a PIM program like Microsoft Outlook? And which online calendar has the most useful and time-saving features?
My last set of questios are on electronic organizers: I wonder whether a pocket PC is the best way to go, or something simpler--what I need is a paper-less planner that allows you to easily and quickly write down and organize and reorganize memos, and schedule and reschedule tasks, for multiple time periods (day, week, month, year, multi-year, etc.), and that has an easy-to-read display screen of a rational size, and stylus-to-tablet (handwriting recognition) data inputting (which seems to be the most efficient way to enter info into these small devices?). I'd greatly appreciate your advice on which particular product may be my best choice.
Many thanks for your help!
Sincerely,
Rena
Answer First, I use an iPaq PDA and I'm very happy with it. I tell people my life is in that unit because I keep all my contacts, calendar and other various notes on it.
Palm units are also very good.
If you are going to go with a PDA, then I would stick with Outlook as most PDAs can sync with it.
As for e-mail services, all the major ones offer a similar feature set. Some offer syncing with Outlook.
Finally, one of the advantages of freeware and shareware is you get a chance to test and evaluate without paying.
