About Joerg Droege
Expertise
I did an education as a Management Assistant in Informatics, I am using the Opera browser since year 2000 & the M2 email client since 2004. I will do my best to answer also other email related questions and email client settings related, etc. But please no Outlook or Outlook Express questions, since I do not use that. (But if you really want to ask in that field, I will sure do try my best to answer your question nicely and correctly anyway :) ). This includes but is not limited to web based email or whatever comes to your mind.

Experience
I am a Management Assistant in Informatics education which was done under the control of the CCI (Chamber of Commerce and Industry). And had to solve various PC, email and other related problems. Using computers since 1990.

Question
I have a complicated question. I belong to a certain website. I believe quite a while ago someone somehow got my email address (attached to that website on a 'secure page').

They started to spam me. I have since set up another email address (both are through Yahoo).

My problem is that I do not want the first email address to collect untold amount of spam weekly with my name attached to the account. I just have an issue with that. I want to delete the account, because all it's doing is collecting garbage, but I'm afraid if I do they will just start spamming my new account.

Actually, I have a third account, which is my main address for email, etc. The second account was made to replace the first account (the one that is getting spammed). The second address is the one I use for the website.

I wanted to just have the second email address as a 'dead account,' (I would change my password and other settings so I wouldn't be able to log in), and would not know, therefore, if I was getting spammed.

However, I read today on Yahoo's web page that if an account is inactive for four months, it is deleted. So I'm not sure if I could use the second address as a 'dead account.'

Do you have any idea of what I can do?

Any help is appreciated.

Answer
Hello John!

Thanks for your question!

What you want to do is indeed not possible as the account is frozen all mails deleted and later totally removed if you do not login into that account for 90 days.

I would suggest to use the spam filter instead.

If there is anything else I can do let me know.
All the best!
Bye!
Joerg
