About Bob H
Expertise

I can answer most questions on a wide variety of computer topics. For email topics I can help with the following:
  • explaining how email works, how to get started, and what to watch out for
  • selecting an email service provider
  • selecting, configuring, and using email software (my personal choice is Outlook and Outlook Express)
  • using web-based email
  • reducing or eliminating spam
  • troubleshooting problems with sending and receiving email
I do not use MACs or Linux so please select another expert if your question is unique to these platforms.

Experience
Experience:
I have been working with computers since 1980. My experience includes application design, programming, web development, hosting, email, building and repairing PCs, home networking, and using hundreds of the most popular software products on the market.

I currently manage an IT department for a major consulting firm. My full time job keeps me quite busy however I also provide consulting services for several friends and professional contacts that own small businesses or need assistance with IT issues. Many people have helped me over the years so I volunteer my time whenever possible to give something back to the community. If you use this site and find it helpful then I encourage you to consider signing up as an expert as well.

Subject: outlook express old files

Question
I have an old back up of  various outlook express files .dbx etc

Is there a way to recover them?

Answer
Hi Lewis.

If you saved all of the Outlook Express data files then you can open them up with Outlook Express, or also with Outlook. Many other email programs will allow you to import those files as well but the specific steps will depend on which email program you are using.

Once you open the files then you can drag and drop the file contents into your main email storage folders so you will have everything in one place. If you need more detail then let me know which operating system and email program you are using, along with version numbers.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Bob
