Question
QUESTION: Hi Joerg,Derek again.
Further to our last session. If I send my song to my son as MP3,it comes back as an error message to my computer, as explained in my 2nd question,2nd paragraph. i.e. "create FILE ASSOCIATION in FOLDER OPTIONS", which seems impossible to do. Can you please enlighten me on this one,as it may be the answer to my problem.

ANSWER: Hello Derek,

as explained earlier the "create FILE ASSOCIATION in FOLDER OPTIONS", you had received because you tried to play a music file which was INSIDE a compressed file archive called RAR.

So you first have to unpack the file from the RAR pack (this process is called "extracting") and then you have the original file back which is in case of music mostly MP3.

That is why I asked if you could detailed describe what you were doing because what I explained has to work.

Also tell me please which Windows version do you use?

Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Joerg

QUESTION: I'm sorry Joerg, but you seem to have the wrong end of the stick.
In my 2nd question that I sent you,I stated that the only way I can get the information through to my son's computer is to "rar" it,which he can't open, even with the information you sent.
The error message comes up on my computer if I try to send it any other way. It's nothing to do with "rar".
My operating system is Windows XP.
Thank you,

Answer
Hello again Derek,

in this case it might be a good idea to reinstall Windows XP then. Sometimes OS like Windows (or any other) get cheesy and with holes and sometimes the only way to resolve issues is to reinstall it.

There is just one other thing you could try beforehand: please check whether he has Service Pack 3 at: START ---> Run... -> winver

If he has Service Pack 2  it might be a good idea updating to Service Pack 3, also during the process so many system files are replaced, it might fix your issues.

Let me know how it goes.

All the best!
Bye!
Joerg
