Question If we send an employee to a seminar and they go from home to the seminar do we pay them from the time they arrive at the seminar (which is the same distance as home to work) or from the time that they leave home ? In other words they leave home at 7:00am and arrive at the seminar at 7:30am. Am I paying them from 7:00 am or 7:30 am? Is there a law that addresses this scenario or is it up to the employer. State of NJ. We are already reimbursing them for mileage as well.
Answer The Law says that travel time is paid for all the time that cuts into their regular scheduled time at work.
so if the employee is scheduled from 8-5 the only travel time he must be paid is from 8-5. If he travels from 7-8 he is not paid for that time.
