Question i work in a union shop i am a member of the shop committee that handles grievances and negotiations.recently we have discovered the machine shop supervisor is altering the time cards to change the incentives by adding in non piecework hours into piecework jobs to take away money from his employees. how much can he if any change the information recorded on the timecards and if there are specific laws that you know of that would govern this situation please let me know ...thanks
Answer Timecards are legal documents and should not be altered by the supervisor. They should be altered at all unless authorized by the employee. This is part of the Fair Labor Standards Act which can be found at the Department of Labor website.
If this is happening than the Department of Labor needs to know about it. I would talk to the supervisor's supervisor and let him know what is going on and that it is against the law to do what he is doing.
