Question
Hi im not sure if you can help with this question or not? But i would welcome your thoughts on this question, Here goes i work as project manger for a company who provide supported living for people with learning disabilities. My company is based in Birmingham west midlands in the uk recently my company has won a contract in the east midlands i have been asked to help out for 6 months setting up the service. My salary will remain the same but i will be expected to stay over in a hotel in the east midlands 2 nights a week one week and all day Saturday and Sunday the following week to cover on call. Currently i do on call in Birmingham but from my home. The salary the company pays me for my on call is £30 from 5PM to 9am on a week night and £30 from Saturday 8am-Sunday 9-am and the same for Sunday. Due to the fact that my on call will now be spent away from home should i get a higher rate of pay?

Answer
Your pay  will not change, but the hotel should be paid for and you should be given an allowance for meals and expenses including extra phone charges if applicable.

THis would be something to discuss with your company before the trip is made. Perhaps you could negotiate a pay increase or perhaps a bonus for the extra work.

Shirley
