Question
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,
I WAS HIRED AS A SECURITY OFFICER FOR A HOTEL. I HAVE BEEN THERE 3 MONTHS. LAST WEEK MY GENERAL MANAGER GAVE ME A CHECK LIST TO BE COMPLETED NIGHTLY BY SECURITY.
THE LIST IS ALL JANITORIAL TASKS. CLEANING BATHROOMS, HALLWAYS, DUSTING, CLEANING WINDOWS, AND TAKING OUT GARBAGE.
DOES MY EMPLOYER HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE ME INTO A JANITOR IF I WAS HIRED AS A SECURITY OFFICER?
AT THE TIME I WAS HIRED MY DUTIES WERE ALL PROTECTION, DETECTION, AND REPORTING. I WAS NEVER TOLD I WOULD BE CLEANING, AND I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE DOING IT.

Answer
Robert:

The employer may require various duties of its employees.  Many employees are hired for specific duties, and may be required to perform "other duties that may be required".

So, yes, they do have the right to require this of your position.  You have the right to object and end your relationship with the Company, if you wish.
