Expert: Thomas R. Ballas - 7/8/2009
QuestionI HAVE A FRIEND WHO WAS FIRED FROM JOB & LEFT ANOTHER 1 OWES HER A FINAL PAYCHECK I BELIEVE FOR 8 DAYS & THE OTHER OWES HER A PAYCHECK FOR 22 HOURS. NOW SHE HAS NOT RECIEVED EITHER OF THEM. WHAT CAN SHE DO TO GET THE PAY THAT SHE IS OWED & HAS WORKED FOR ? THIS IS IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND, ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
AnswerDamon:
From the State of Maryland web site:
Division of Labor and Industry
The Maryland Guide to Wage Payment and Employment Standards -
Wages and Compensation -
Wage Payment on Termination: When Final Paycheck Due
Each employer shall pay an employee, or the authorized representative of an employee, all wages due for work that the employee performed before the termination of employment, on or before the day on which the employee would have been paid the wages if the employment had not terminated.
Here is the link that provides you a form on how to file a wage claim against the employer.
Hope this helps.
