Question I work in Indiana and have been at this company for 3 yrs. I started out in one dept. as part-time. Then was given full-time.Then the inventory control person was let go. The boss said he knew when he fired him that he wanted to put me in that position. I am female, the other person was male. I do hold an associates degree. I think the first guy held at least a bachelors degree. My question is on pay. I am doing exactly the same job, actually more now because of current changes, and am making at least half of what the other guy was making. Do I have any claims to pay discrimination based on the fact that he was a male making over 50 thousand a yr and I am afemale doing exact same job in exact same position making less than 25,000 a year?
Answer President Obama did sign a law called the Lilly Ledbetter Act. It is a law that says a male cannot make more than a female doing the same work.
The male is not longer employed with the company, I do not know how this law would apply to a former position as it is geared toward two people working in the same office doing the same job.
It is a brand new law and I am not that familiar with it yet, I have not had time to fully research it's contents.
