Employment Law/Termination

I was buying a computer from the owner,I was suppose to make payment on Saturday but something came up. I went to work on Monday and he said we needed to part ways. he his with holding my pay check, can he do this?

Brian - Yes, he can terminate you for that, or almost any, reason. Can he withhold your paycheck?  Not unless you signed an agreement letting him take the money for the computer out of your pay.  Most states have a labor department that will intervene when employees are not give a paycheck they are owed.  Look yours up and contact them to find out how to file a wage claim against the employer.  If he wants his money, he should sue you, but not take money you earned without your permission.

I can answer most questions about employment law, federal or state. I am an attorney, not an HR professional, so questions about HR careers, coursework, prospects, etc. are not within my scope.
