Subject: diabetic or not
Question i've recently been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. my fasting blood sugar was 140 and 150. A1C is 8.6% But experience no other symptoms at all, as well as a random check after eating my sugar was only 135. I have been extremely stressed for the last 6+ months, is it possible that my stress levels are raising my blood sugar levels?
Answer Hi Ivan,
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Unfortunately, although stress WILL raise blood sugar, it won't raise it enough to cause an A1C of 8.6, which corresponds to an AVERAGE blood sugar OVER 200. That average is over a 3 month period.
You say a random blood sugar check after eating was 135... how soon after eating? How often has your doctor advised you to check?
What I found was that when I was first diagnosed, I tested a LOT just to see how various foods affected me. I'd eat something -- say half a bagel -- and test 90 minutes later (when blood glucose is at its highest). I discovered there are certain foods I just can't eat -- they make my blood sugar go crazy. Every diabetic is different -- some people have no problems with white potatoes but can't eat sweet potatoes, and with other folks, the exact opposite is true.
Let me know if I can be of any further help.
Barb
