Question Dear Ms. Russell: I am writing on my daughters' behalf, she does not have internet service as yet. My daugher is 27 years old and married for one year. She has had endo since she was 13 and has been misdiagnosed until 3 years ago. She has had the depo shots (made her feel terrible and gave her migraines), she has used 6 different birth control pills (some for 3 weeks to have a period and some the entire 4 weeks so not to have a period). She has had two laproscopies (excuse spelling). One just recently in July 2009 where the GYN did a more thorough surgery (4 incisions) and got everything he could see (even behind her uterus). She can't take birth control pills because she will have a migraine every day, the pain is still there. Not as bad as before but enough so she still needs to take prescription pain meds to relieve it. She and I are at our wit's end. Is there a doctor in the Cleveland, Ohio area that specializes in endometriosis that can possibly help her? The present GYN she has is very understanding, but he seems to be running out of ideas. He suggested the copper IUD, but we have read there is a possibility of this method causing abortions, which is not an option for her. (there are mixed reviews on this, but prefer not to take any chances). Are there any other options she can explore? Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Mary
Answer Hi Mary
I so sorry to hear of your daughters ongoing battle with endo...I too, had a similar battle with endo...the BC pills, the migraines. It all never seemed to end. I am glad you are close to me. I live in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio. I have an excellent Dr.named Richard Mitchell. He is located in Hudson Ohio. I have been going to him for nearly 20 years. He was originally recommended to me as a High Risk/Fertility doctor. He has been with me thru thick and thin with this endo ordeal for years.
I would highly recommend him to you...its a bit of a drive but may be well worth it. I am also aware of another doctor in the area, I have never gone to him but I hear he specializes in endo-Dr. Biats and he is associated with the hospitals in the Akron area.
I can so empathize with your daughters discomfort. There is one med that I still take for my period and it is called Anaprox. It is an anti inflammatory that helps reduce pain, bloating and overall discomfort during periods. It also allows the endometrium wall to reduce in swelling allowing better blood flow thus less cramping. I only use it during my period. Just a thought!
Give the above doctors a call to see if they are taking new patients, I hope they are...Dr Mitchell is awesome and has helped me immensely.
Best of luck to you both.
Martha
