Question My family has owned 2/160 interest in all the oil, gas and other minerals in and under lands in an area described as Mountrail County, North Dakota, SE quarter of Section 12, Township 157 North, Range 94 West since 1954. What is the current situation in that area and if oil (or other) is being harvested, with whom should we be in touch? We are assuming these rights have some value at this point. Owner names and locations have changed since the official recording of this ownership in 1968.
Answer The area is active and your holding has value and the reason you probably haven't been contacted is no one may know how to reach you. Please understand if your leased, the property is drilled you hve a very small right to future income. Most well units in this area are 1,280 acres therefore you own 2/1280 times the future lease royalty. This probably means less than $100 per year.
