Question
30 years ago my grandmother passed away, my family and I inherited mineral rights in Renville County ND. How do we go about getting more info? It was leased (the lease has been up since 2001). If I know the township, range and section, where do I go from there?  Can you give me an idea what my next step may be, or who to contact?  Please give us some direction.

Thank You,
Kelly

Answer
Kelly:

I assume your seeking information to possibly have the holding leased again.  Most commonly you will be contacted vs seeking a party interested in leasing your holding.  Remember there most be a party willing to spend funds to lease and develop before you will be contacted.

Secondly, have you recorded a statement of claim in Renville County?  North Dakota statute requires an updated recording every twenty years or the surface owner can begin court action to reclaim the mineral ownership.
