There is actually some etiquette as to which side a poppy should be worn. I am english and have always been told by grandparents to wear my poppy on the right as I am female. The theory behind this is that men in the forces would wear their medals on the left, the widows of the men would wear the medals on the right. Women in the service wear the poppy on the left as they too would wear their medals on that side. Many females in the Royal Family wear their medals on the left as they are members of the armed services - the Queen for example is Colonel-in-Chief of the Army.

The most important thing though is to wear a poppy. The British Legion is not just about veterans from the World Wars; we have young men and women in need of the Legions help now.

We wear poppies on the left because that is traditionally "over the heart"
