English as a Second Language/Sentence Structure

Hello Jed,
Can I say "9 months and then 2" instead of saying "11 months"?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dina,

That would be very unusual, unless you were talking about two separate periods. For example, if you were going to Morocco to study and somebody asked you "How long will you be going for?", you might answer "Nine months, and then two". This would suggest that there was a break between the first period (of nine months) and the second period (of two months) If you were going for an uninterrupted period of eleven months, then "nine months and then two" would be a most unnatural answer.

I hope that helps.

With best wishes,
