Dear Amy,

What is the correct verb structure for the following sentence:

We arrived on Saturday evening at six o'clock and the first thing we did was ..... a hotel room.

2. book
3. booking

Thanks & best regards,
Antoine Ghannoum

Answer
Hi Antoine,

the correct structure is 2) book

We arrived on Saturday evening at six o'clock and the first thing we did was book a hotel room.

I'm not trying to confuse you but according to some schools of thought the correct version should be 1) to book

We arrived on Saturday evening at six o'clock and the first thing we did was TO book a hotel room.

My personal opinion is that 2) is the correct version.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Amy
