Question
QUESTION: Amy please explain the use of Has or Have with 'Anyone' ,No one, 'anybody' and 'someone'.

Please explain with the help of sentences.I am confused when to use have or has.

ANSWER: Hello Dev,

Anyone, no one, anybody and someone are all indefinite pronouns.

anybody/ anyone    is a singular pronoun meaning no matter what person

no-one   is also a singular pronoun meaning no person

someone is also a singular pronoun meaning an unspecified or unknown person

Here are a few examples:

Does anyone have an extra pen I could borrow? (does... have is the interrogative form of the verb "have" 3rd person singular).

Does anybody have any idea when the movie will be released? (does... have is the interrogative form of the verb "have" 3rd person singular).

No-one has the right to tell you that.

Someone I know has a puppy for sale.

You can't use "anyone" or "anybody" with "has", only with "does have" just like you can't use "no-one" or "someone" with "have" only with "has"; we're strictly speaking of verbs in the Present Tense here.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Amy

QUESTION: Amy please check few sentences related to this topic.

1 How come someone as smart as you are, has not figured it out yet
(Have I used 'has' correctly here?)

2 No-one has come.
3 Someone/Somebody has stolen the golden pen.

To sum up---We use base form have after does. Isn't it.

Answer
Hi Dev,

1 How come someone as smart as you are, has not figured it out yet? >>> correct
(Have I used 'has' correctly here?)

2 No-one has come. >>> correct
3 Someone/Somebody has stolen the golden pen. >> correct

To sum up---We use base form have after does. Isn't it? Yes, you're right. That's how you form the interrogative form of "to have".

Glad to see you got it!
