The company dismissed 200 employees because of financial difficulties.

(1.) What’s the difference between the two?


When the company told Jack that he was rejected, he was unpleasantly surprised because he thought he had impressed the employer at the interview.

(2.) In the sentence, may I use the past tense “..he thought he impressed the employer at the interview”?


2. I’d like to ask all employees to reduce their expenses significantly.

(1.)What can be taken in place of “significantly”?  “considerably” or “as much as possible”?

(2.)   What can be taken in place of “review”?  “Check” or “look at”?

(1.)    Do both have the same meaning?

(2.)    In the sentence, may I say also, “The work took one week longer than expected”?


4. Emily is a people person because she is agreeable.

(1.)    Does it mean the same if I replace “agreeable” with “pleasant”?

I always book that hotel because it is a quite pleasant place to stay.

(2.)    In this case, what can be taken in place of “pleasant”? “Agreeable” or “comfortable”?


5. I sent the package by a delivery service.
The package was sent by a delivery service.

(1.)    In the sentences,  may I replace “sent” with “shipped” ?

You will notice we need five different colors of Presentation Binders, so don’t send all the same color as you did last year.

(2.)    In the sentence, may I say also “You will note that…”? Or can I say “Please note that..”?
