AboutMika Expertise I am an expert on the Praying Mantis. I can answer many questions about this beautiful species about but not limited to their care, behavior, and species. If you are looking to identify an unknown insect, I would strongly suggest choosing another expert. Asking me an identification question will result in a breifly researched answer and not a full response that is expert-worthy, but will end up with less information then you could get from another expert. I do not do pest control questions. Please feel free to ask me any questions about mantids!
Experience I really enjoy entomology as a hobby to do in any spare time available to me. I've researched praying mantids for a year (which may not sound so long, but I have researched ALOT more than you may imagine in that time frame) and am still researching all the time. I have had very fond feelings for them since I was about 5 years of age and have continued to love them since. The idea for me to be on AllExperts is to open my mind to new ideas about the mantis and help me research them further than ever before.
Education/Credentials I have studied for a year very hard. I am starting to turn my hobby into an actual useful interest, and want to help many people along the way.
I have a question for these tiny little orange bugs, they are most common around pools and are especially attracted to the color white. They do bite me, there's always a ton of them around outside on my clothes arms and even my hair. But i wanted to know if they could do us humans harm in any way, besides that little pinch of them bitting. There's just so many of them on me i get worried with my daughter because there's just as many are on here when were outside.
Answer Dear Amanda-
These are insects called Thrips. They are very plentiful pests that feed on any plants, so besides biting, they can kill any plants you own. They are attracted to people because of their sweat and are most especially attracted to bright floral colors such as white, yellow, orange...etc. They seem to change color depending on their surroundings or plants, so they can easily go unnoticed. Since I do not know much about them, I'll give you a link to a great website all about them and their removal-
