Entomology (Study of Bugs)/Moths

Question
I live in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.  For the past two spring/summers we have had small brown moths eating the pine needles off of our pine trees.  Is there anything I can do to irradicate them?  They are killing the trees and decimating the pine needles (both new growth and older needles).
We also have one pine tree that we can hear a chewing sound from within the tree.  There are holes all thru out the trunk.  We are assuming it is some kind of beetle.  That tree seems to be dieing from the inside out.  Is there any way of saving this tree?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Answer
You have at least two different kinds of pests eating your tree.  The moths are the adult form of a caterpillar that eats pine needles.  You have a different insect boring inside the trunk of the tree - probably a beetle larva.

I suggest that you consult a professional tree expert in your area.
