Entomology (Study of Bugs)/Uk unknown insect

Hi, I have recently found several of these insects dotted around my second floor flat in the South Coast of England and haven't a clue what they are or where they are coming from etc, am hoping you may be able to help, please see attached pics. Thanks in advance, Richard

Dear Richard - These are Clytus arietis, a species of long-horned wood-boring beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae); they are widely distributed in Europe, including Great Britain. Their larvae are found in the wood of dead trees, and they will not infest or cause any harm in homes.  See http://tinyurl.com/b4df94r for images and more information.

Hope this helps,

Will accept most questions in general entomology, including those related to medical entomology, taxonomy, ecology, arthropod surveillance, and pest management. If you are requesting a 'mystery bug' identification, PLEASE either attach an image to your question, or post an image on a web page (such as Flickr) so that I can look at it, as verbal descriptions frequently are insufficient for a definitive identification.
