Entomology (Study of Bugs)/scorpions

Question
Hi there I'm trying to see if I can find any scorpions in my yard but I don't know where to look or where they live and I don't know if my area has any scorpions in it

Answer
Peter:

South Africa in general certainly has scorpions, some of which may be dangerously venomous.

One way to search for them is to go out at night with an ultraviolet light ("blacklight"), as scorpions glow bright green or blue under UV light.  Otherwise, look by day under stones, boards, and other debris.  BUT BE CAREFUL.  Always turn objects toward you so that you are blocking a strike from any venomous snake that may be hiding under the board or stone.

Frankly, I'd go looking with an expert who knows where to look and *how* to look in a safe manner.  Good luck.
