I would like to add that I lived in florida on a sailboat and was also getting bit without seeing any bugs.  The noseeums were living in the algae and seaweed growing on the outside of the boat at water level. I did a lot of reasearch and learned that the will also live in damp wood or mulch.  Sometimes I would see a tiny insect about the size of a flake of ground black pepper floating in front of my computor screen
