Question
beetle
beetle
I am from Chicago, Illinois. I found an insect(6 legs) about 1 cm in length and a shiny blackish brown back. It looks like a beetle because it has the tucked in wings. Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
Dylan,

This is a beetle, possibly the black carpet beetle (Attagenus unicolor). See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/carpet_beetle.html for a picture of a related species and general control info. Post a follow up if you have questions.
