Question
insects
insects
Sir,
I have collected some insects from chandigarh/mohali area around the rainy season. Can you please identify them.

Answer
Dear Danish Shamoon,

It will be hard to provide scientific names for both the species you have collected.

The first one is a beetle in the family Scarabaeidae, commonly called Scarab beetle. They are fairly common around lights at night during monsoon.

The second picture is that of a winged termite (technically called alate) which emerge during first rains. They are the only ones capable of reproduction in termites.

Identification of both at genus and species level will require original specimens and identification key.

Hope this helps,
