Entomology (Study of Bugs)/small kitchen insects

Question
We started to have small black insects flying mainly in & around our kitchen trash. They are a little larger then gnats. Also they are worse with anything sweet even drinking lemonade or ice tea I must keep a napkin over the glass or they fly in. I also find very tiny ants usually near the sink. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Marilyn
Without seeing these flies I can only guess. They could be drain flies.  Use a strong drain leaner and treat the sink drains. Small ants are usually grease eaters. About you can do with them is keep all counters and sink wiped up and grease free.
