Entomology (Study of Bugs)/some kind of firefly


My wife and I are at pat mays lake tx in the eve just after dark we saw something flying and lighting up with a wing span of two to three inches thought it was lightninng bug till it got closer it look like tinkerbell no drink or other involved any ideas? C

There is a species of click beetle that is found in Texas called the Headlight Elater. This beetle can be 1 and 1/2 inches long. It's wingspread may make it look bigger. If you want to see photos, goggle Pyrophorus noctilucus.
