Question
Borer?
Borer?
This is a pic of a Coast Live Oak Tree t a nursery located in Fillmore, CA. I live in Santa Clarita, CA. On the trunk of this tree there are 2 holes. Any idea if those were caused by an insect, beetle etc?? I'm contemplating buying it...??

Answer
Susan,

These don't really look like insect emergence holes, they are too large (they appear to be about an inch in diameter). You might want to show this to your county Extension Master Gardeners (extension.org). It might also be woodpecker holes but I can't tell for sure.
