Entomology (Study of Bugs)/Datana perspicua danger?

I have what i think are datana perspicua in my live oak and there are tons. Is there any danger to the oak tree, ive never seen so many and their droppings are covering the ground

Hi Debra
It depends upon the amount of defoliation. Most  trees can survive defoliation for a season. You may wish to consult a tree service and have the tree sprayed.

They should start pupating soon. Most will not survive to become moths You can spray yourself with an organic product like Cedar oil
