Question
Mystery bug
Mystery bug
Hello Nathan,
I live in Duluth Georgia. I found a flying insect in my house today. The temperature was 80+ degrees today and most of the week. It flies and I found it in my bedroom on the sheer curtain.  It has 6 legs and some strange looking antenna - they branch out into 3 at the end. I have only found one of these bugs. I would like to know what kind of insect this is and if it bites or stings. I also want to know if it is likely that I will find more of his friends. :-)
Thank you for your help!

Answer
AH!  Well, I answered the first submission and asked for a picture...here it is!

This is a scarab beetle of some species...possibly one of the flower scarabs.  They are completely harmless to humans, animals and buildings.  This one's pretty small, but completely full grown.

Thanks for sending the picture!!

Expertise

I currently live in San Antonio, TX and have expertise in identifying insects, many types of spiders, and other arthropod critters that infest lawns, ornamentals, structures, trees, pets and livestock. Mites are not a strong point of mine. I'm not a licensed doctor, so I cannot provide medical diagnosis of conditions possibly related to insects or other arthropods. If you've got an interesting photo for me to see, attach it to your question, or let me know and I'll give you my email so the picture will get to me. If you have hosted an insect photo on a website, please include the link so I can go look at it and provide a faster ID for you. You may also join my group page on Facebook and post your picture at www.facebook.com/groups/antmans.hill/.
